This is a famous scripture that is often quoted! There are even songs written of this verse! So what does “Wait Upon” mean? In a generic sense we all know but if you go to the Hebrew root word you will find some amazing things! The Hebrew root word is “Qavah”, Strongs #6960. The word means to bind together by twisting! Just like a rope is made! A rope becomes strong by binding together small cords! A three strand cord is not easily broken! The Trinity would be a good example! Like the rope they are one but three separate individuals that are unbreakable formed together. They are one because there is no sin in them and they are in perfect agreement! The first symptom of sin is disagreement! Disagreement with the Word of God! Then with family and nation! Our Constitution established by our Founding Father’s three separate branches yet one government! Samson was twisted together with the strength of God! No rope could hold him! Until he was deceived by a woman who cut his hair and his spirit was unraveled from God! I am not blaming the woman here but he consented to her deceit and knew well what he was doing! Then his eyes were put out by the enemy. Sin will blind us to the truth! He repented and used his strength that God had restored to him to bring down the coliseum upon his enemies and himself! The reason we wait upon God is that we do not defeat the enemy Satan by ourselves but by who God is and our close wrapped relationship to him! Jesus could have easily broken the ropes that tied him to the whipping post and the Cross! However he was stranded together in the Trinity and knew his sacrifice was necessary to deliver all men from sin! Paul and Silas were tied together by ropes and chains in the prison! The ropes and chains of sin that put them there could not hold them! The hang man’s rope was broken as the punishment of death for sin was paid at Calvary! The word “Wait Upon” also means to be lifted up and exalted! To be offered up, carried up and elevated from one elevation to another! The Jewish Temple at Jerusalem was elevated up above the city! They call it the Temple Mount! Worshippers had to ascend up from the city to the Temple! Jesus was taken high up above the city at Mount Calvary! He was exalted there! Jesus ascended from Mount Olivet to Heaven! The Rapture of the Church will be an ascension from earth to Heaven! Holiness brings ascension while sin brings descension and death! This word also means to “offer Up.” Jesus was offered up as the only acceptable sacrifice for our sin! God offered up himself for our sin! We trust Christ because no one else or nothing else is trustworthy! We wait upon him in trust and confidence that he will accomplish the promises he has made to us! U.S. Constitution & Trinity!
Our American government is patterned after the Trinity! We have one government yet 3 branches! So is it with God’s Kingdom! We have one God yet 3 person’s! The Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The reason the Trinity is one is because there is perfect unity between them with no sin! Any human government will never have perfect unity because of the sin of mortals! Our Heavenly Father is the Executive Branch of the Trinity! Jesus is the Judicial Branch as the Supreme Judge! The Holy Spirit is the Legislative Branch as the writer of the Laws (Bible). Remember the Angel’s were divided into 3 branches with 3 different functions! Gabriel the messenger angel. Michael the war angel and Lucifer the Praise angel. Lucifer became Satan and rebelled against God and was cast out of Heaven into the earth! Now we have to deal with him here! However God through His Son Jesus Christ has given us the power to defeat him! The work of Satan is to overthrow families and our Constitutional government patterned after the Bible! He uses rebellion and violence! There is a declared war today on the political left to overthrow our form of government and replace it with a Marxist socialist system! An effort to install a one world government with no borders! The one world leader of this one world government will be the Anti-Christ! It will last for 7 years with the return of Christ to earth! If we as Christian’s are going to sit along the side lines and bench ourselves we will lose this war! Remember that old Gospel song? Stand up Stand up for Jesus ye soldiers of the Cross! God Renders Legal Decision! 1 Chronicles 15:13
“For because you did it not at the first, the Lord our God made a breach upon us, for we sought Him not after the due order.” Two Hebrew words stand out in this scripture written thousands of years ago! The word “first”, head or first in rank. The words “due order”, means a legal decision given by God to be followed by the people! What is really interesting is the Hebrew word is another Hebrew root word for the word “due order.” The Strong’s Number is 8199. Here is the Hebrew definition of the word; “this word encompasses all the facets of government including executive, legislative and judicial branches of government.” This sounds like our United States Constitution! Most Americans do not get the connection between our Bible and the Constitution! Our Constitution is a Biblical document! Remember the Jewish Temple and the Mount was the seat of all religious and government rule to the Jewish culture! Law cases were tried there! Laws were written there! Executive actions to enforce the law were done from there! Just as our God is a Trinity so is our government with three branches! The pattern for our Constitution was implemented after the Bible to give people liberty and Justice for all. The question that begs to be asked is why did God have to render a legal decision? We have broken His laws through sin! God’s legal decision to punish sin was accomplished by His Son on Calvary! God has given His Son Jesus Christ the responsibility to judge the living and the dead! Democracy is finding proximate solutions to insoluble problems! American Theologian Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971) Comment: Our Founding Father’s recognized the limitations of human government! Problems are created by humans and then attempts to solve by humans! This is why our Constitution has a Spiritual Dimension! Just as the Trinity exists to reconcile man to God so our three branches of government exist to reconcile the governed to the government. A Jewish Guest
We had a Jew from Israel meet us in our home last week. He found something peculiar to him in our living room? He told us he had visited a lot of Christian homes here in America but had never seen a Manorah in their homes? Why do you have a portrait of the Last Supper and a Manorah on your fire place mantel? I told him that Judaism and Christianity are linked together eternally! You cannot have one without the other! You can only separate them with bad Theology! Judaism is the womb that birthed Christ and Christianity! You cannot have ice cream without milk! Even the Muslims understand this! The Quran commands them to kill Jews and Christians! He asked me why then in history have Christians persecuted the Jews! I told him that could only be explained by complete ignorance and by Christians who do not read their Bible! I shared with him that even in America often times the Bible is wrapped around popular culture rather than eternity. I shared with him that a lot of Churches in America have removed symbolism from their worship! Not only has the Manorah been removed but even the Cross? I shared with him that Moses was given instruction from God to construct the Marorah. The seven branched Manorah was made of gold! It is also used in the Book of Revelation in our Bible representing the seven churches! The six of the seven branches represent human knowledge and are inclined towards the central branch or Light of God. The seven branches also represent the six days of creation and the center branch represents the Sabbath or seventh day. The central light also represents the burning bush seen by Moses! The central light was never extinguished in the Tabernacle or the Temple. When you add up the total number of blosoming almond sets on the branches you get sixty six! This represents the sixty six Books of the Bible. My thoughts about the number 666 in the Book of Revelation is that the number of man is the number six added to sixty six represents man trying to live without the Word of God and becomes the Beast! Sermon On The Mount Series New Life Church
Matthew Chapter 5; The sermon on the mount is the most taught and least followed of all Jesus teachings! Jesus brings a new imagination ( image ) and a new people out of this sermon. Israel has a history of getting things wrong! They moved from holiness, sin, rebellion, repentance and back to holiness. The difficulty today is the church is just like Israel. Often we cannot tell the difference between the church and the world. Leviticus 18:1-4; God found us in Egypt! God did not want the Jews to be like Egypt or like Canaan. There are traps both in prosperity and bondage. Do not follow the practices of the world. The world is sinking sand. Build on the rock (Christ). The Jews wanted Samuel to give them a king. Why? Other nations had kings. We want to be like the world. God and samuel were greived. So they got Saul, David and a bunch of really bad kings out of forty. Ezekiel 20:6-8; It is possible not to lust, control your temper and live peaceably. Here is a summation of the sermon on the mount, “An invitation from Jesus to be like him and be set apart.” We are a covenant people serving a covenant God. As a mother feeds her baby through the umbilical cord so we are the branches attached to the vine. Moses could not follow the law! The sermon on the mount is not another set of rules. Jesus in you teaches you and enpowers you. John 15:5-6; Apart from me you can do nothing. Bare much fruit! Philippians 2:12; Work out your salvation with fear and trembling. God works in you! No individualism here but community. The disciples left the crowd but after Jesus changed their lives they went back to minister to the crowds! We are in covenant with God and the community. If we try by ourselves we will fail. Live with Jesus and others. No isolation from community in the covenant. The table of covenant is community. Together we servs the community. We serve each other and we serve Christ as He serves us! The Trinity of the covenant is serving community, each other and Christ!
