The Hebrew word for this English phrase is “Hayah”. Strongs # 1961. This Hebrew word is also related to another Hebrew word “Havah”. Strongs #1933. What is interesting is that these words are not nouns but verbs! So they represent an action or initiation of something! The first word describes God as “to exist.” He always was and always will be! He does not fade off into history like men! The second Hebrew word used means to “breathe.” Do not confuse this word with the two Hebrew words used in Genesis 2:7 and Genesis 6:17. In Genesis 2:7, Strongs #5387, the word breath means a Divine inspiration with intellect. The word breath used in Genesis 6:17, Strongs 7307, means a violent exhaustion of air and spirit. Like giving up the ghost! At Creation God the I Am That I Am, initiated his breath into man with Divine inspiration and intellect! At Noah’s flood in Genesis 2:7, the word breath means a violent exhaustion of air and spirit by death! At birth we receive God’s breath! At death we exhaust God’s breath! At Creation our life is established by his breath! We are established with his breath! We did not evolve! So our breath is not our own! So you have to be careful what you say! Some people have bad breath! Do we praise God or curse him with bad breath? Do we exalt God or ourselves? Every good or evil action is initiated with the breath of our words! Again our breath is not our own! Who is the owner of your breath? When Jesus raises us from the dead again one day we will have breath again! Both believers and unbelievers! Remember the story Jesus told of Lazarus and the rich man? It is found in Luke 16:19-31. Lazarus the beggar was taken to Heaven and the rich man to Hell. There was a great gulf between the two abodes! The rich man begged Abraham to warn his brothers still on earth to the Hell that awaits them unless they repent! Abraham told the rich man in Hell that his brothers had Moses and the Prophets! Abraham told the rich man that if they will not believe them then they will not believe one though raised from the dead! So God was really telling Moses to tell Pharaoh that I am the breath that all men have! I am the God that breathes breath into men! I am the Creator of all living things! Pharaoh you have not evolved by your own works! Pharaoh since you are using my breath that I gave you do not abuse me in unbelief towards me! Jesus said we must be born again! I second breath or wind! Before being born again I cursed God with my breath! No I praise him with the same breath! Pharaoh rejected the God that gave him breath and he and his army was drowned in the Red Sea! In the time of Noah the world except for 8 souls were drowned in the flood! Remember Lucifer who became Satan the Praise Leader of Heaven? Remember the fallen Angel? He used the breath of God to Glorify God then he used the same breath to oppose God! He rebelled against God in Heaven and was cast down to earth with 1/3 of the angels! Now they use the breath of God to oppose his Kingdom here on earth! Satan has many followers over the generations that have lived since the Garden of Eden! Is your breath used to raise doubts about God or affirm him? After the resurrection of the dead we will have breath again! Some to everlasting life and some to judgment! The Praise of the Saints will be beautiful but the screams of Hell deafening! Remember this! What you did with God’s breath while here on earth will determine your outcome in eternity! You are not your own you have been bought with a price!If I were God I would be reluctant to give mortal men my breath! Very risky! Will they praise me or curse me? With the breath of God Jesus said on the Cross,” Father forgive them for they know not what they do”! Crucify Him! Are You Saved? Ephesians 2:8
We looked at the word grace previously used in this passage now we will look at the word saved. So what does saved mean? Saved from what, who, when,through,by and the list goes on! Saved from your boss? They say real joy is putting your milk carton on the breakfast table in the morning and there is a picture of your boss on the milk carton listed as a missing person! Is being saved dependent on me? I can be a good driver but a reckless driver can kill me! Can i be saved from financial ruin? How about working? Still i can be fired or laid off! Saved from bad health? Stop smoking but you could still get lung cancer! Saved for what purpose? Do i need to be saved from people or for people? Saved from a terrorist or for a terrorist? To be saved using the Greek root word in this scripture means to be saved from eternal death! To be delivered from physical death! To be healed and restored to health! To be saved from danger, loss and destruction! Where is the evidence that you are saved? This is the most important question you will ever ask! Where else in the Bible do we find the two words grave and saved used together? Genesis 47:25 “The people of Egypt told Joseph thou has saved our lives let us find grace in the sight of your Lord and we will be Pharaoh’s servants!” The best evidence you are saved is you will be a servant! If we take the Hebrew word, “Chazaq”, we find it is a verb and means to be courageous and overpowering! This might seem like a paradox in that God causes Pharaoh to become courageous and overpowering to oppose God! You might say Pharaoh played the fool! If I had been Pharaoh and know what I know now I would have told Moses that he could go! No problem! Sometimes the devil gets blamed for what God does and sometimes God gets blamed for what the devil does! Only God can give us discernment to know! If Pharaoh had been compliant to Moses God’s wonders, miracles and deliverance would not have been displayed as a testimony to God! The Egyptian women would never have given up their silver, gold and clothes to the Jews! They would have been sent away empty! Without Jesus on the Cross the resurrection would not have been possible for us! Remember some people will come into your life that seem useless and even to a great annoyance to you but yet God has a plan and purpose to bring His Glory out through you and the events caused by them and through them! God asked Moses, “Who has made man’s mouth, who makes the dumb or deaf or the seeing and the blind?” Have not I the Lord! The Queen of the Gospels Song Writer Fanny Crosby was born blind. She wrote over 8000 hymns! Over 100 million copies have been printed and distributed! She wrote 1000 poems! She had four books of poetry printed! My favorite song that she wrote is, “Blessed Assurance.” I have eyes yet I have not written one song? Pharaoh could not have done what he did without God’s help! Dreams!
I shared with you earlier an article about dreams. I want to continue with you about visions and dreams. Visions and dreams are promised to God’s children! God imparts these into His own for encouragement! My people perish for a lack of knowledge! The natural man dreams and you might call them nightmares! The dreams of the natural man look back! The dreams of the spiritual man will always look forward! The Bible is a forward looking book! The Bible is a living book! Satan will always try to get you to look back because he hates his future! Satan will always try to remind you of your past to enslave you in sin today! The Bible says Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever! That is why I can quote you a scripture out of the old testament written thousands of years ago or a theologian who lived a thousand years ago and it applies today and tomorrow! Looking forward for the believer leads to joy! Pharaoh had a dream but only troubled him until Joseph came along! Satan will try to convince you do not have a future! If you believe him then you have no future just like him! During World War II Stalin had a military and political advisor named Nakita Khrushchev. After Russia had lost 2 million men in battle with Hitler Stalin told Nakita that like his other General’s that failed him it was time for you to commit suicide so you could be a good example to the living if they fail me! Nakita told Stalin that this war was not your fault or my fault and even though it looks hopeless we will prevail and win this war! God always has us looking forward! Our youth in America have no hope because of betrayal by their leaders! The Bible has been removed from their lives through public education, popular culture and a host of other venues! Dreams! Genesis Chapter 41
The word dreams in the Hebrew means to bind firmly! It can also mean a sense of dumbness! I must dream all the time! The Greek word defines a dream as a vision within a dream. The Bible talks about visions and dreams! The English Webster defines a dream as an image or conception of something. It also can mean to deceive as a ghost. Certainly a dream would have a sense of dumbness unless it were properly interpreted. I am sure we have all had dreams where we were dumbfounded as to the meaning? I remember having a dream about New York City about 6 months prior to 9-11. In this dream I was walking around in the streets of New York and seeing these piles of white powder all over the place? Since I had no one to interpret the dream it did nothing to preclude the attack! I only understood the dream after the attack and then I was not surprised by it! When we were called to the mission field back in the 1980’s we did not know what country we should go too? We thought about Mexico. Then through many visions and dreams God revealed to us He wanted us to go to India! Joseph had the ability to interpret dreams! He interpreted the dreams of the chief butler, the chief baker and then the dreams of Pharaoh of Egypt! Joseph got it right to the saving of the people of Egypt and for his own family from the famine! If you do not get an immediate interpretation of a dream then wait on God and He will find another believer to help you or through events He will show or confirm the dream to you!
