God’s Witness in You!
Psalm 119:2 “Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and seek him with the whole heart.” Comment: We are going to look at three Hebrew words in this scripture. We have already defined “Blessed”, in Psalm 119:1. So in verse two we have the word “keep”. Keep used here means to guard, protect, obey, preserve, as one who would guard a vineyard or a watchman on the wall! We are to protect and guard the Holy scriptures! Or do we get careless and allow the Bible to be removed from schools? To hide truth from our children and replace the truth with lies? The scriptures are to be preserved for future generations! The next Hebrew word is the word “testimonies”. The word means to be a witness! Like in a court trial! Testify to what you saw and heard! We are to take ownership of our testimony! Our whole Bible is a Book of Testimonies! Another Hebrew root word linked to the English word testimonies means to duplicate or repeat! So both Old and New Testament prophets duplicated or repeated what they saw and heard in the presence of God! The Old Testament prophets predicted the birth place and the time of Christ’s birth 600 years before the event! No guessing here! Let me give you an example of a 21st Century prophet! His name is Kim Clements. In 2007 he prophesized a man by the name of Trump will come to power in the highest office of our land! This was even before Obama was elected! Then in 2013 Kim mentions his first name Donald and says his political opposition will cry, Impeach! Impeach! Impeach! Yet he says they will fail! Today 2/5/2020, this prophecy will come to pass! Then Kim went on to say Trump will be re-elected in 2020! So a true prophet just repeats or duplicates what God has shown him! My testimony for Christ is what he has done for me! What he is speaking to me! It may or may not be for public knowledge! I had a vision of 9-11 months before the attack! I saw piles of white powder in the streets of New York City! I did not understand the vision until after it happened! Jesus raised me from the dead in 1973! That has been my testimony until now! When you hand out a Gospel Tract in a Walmart to a store clerk you are being a testimony! When you witness Christ in a prison you are being a testimony! When you preach the Gospel in a foreign land you are being a witness! The last word in verse two is the word “heart”. Our heart is the central motive of all our actions! It is the totality of man’s nature! The whole spectrum of human emotions come from your heart! Jesus said we must be born again! A new heart! Change my heart of God! Make it ever true! Mold me and make me to be just like you! Full of grace and mercy! Only Christ and his love for you can change you! Your witness for who will reveal who lives inside of you! James and Hamsa Sasse. Watch! Witness! Worship!
These three words describes the actions of all the participants of the first Christmas night! Jesus light pushes back the darkness of your life! The Angel’s, the wise men and the shepherds all watched that night in great wonder! God did not accomplish the birth of his Son all by himself! He engaged the help of his creation to get the job done! From the lowest to the highest in cultural rankings he used people who were watching for him! The shepherds were raising a special breed of sheep! They were broad tailed sheep that were only used for sacrifice! Remember Cain and Abel? Cain’s vegetarian sacrifice was not accepted by God however his brother Abel made an animal or blood sacrifice that was acceptable to God! Abel was a shepherd! The Shepherd’s were culturally familiar with every manger in Bethlehem! By contrast the wise men of the East were men of science studying the scriptures and astronomy! They could have been Persians, Iraqis or even Jews! The Arab’s would have been familiar with the Jewish scriptures since the Jews were captives in Babylon for 70 years! We assume there were three wise men from the three gifts however traveling across the Arabian desert would require a caravan of people for supplies and safety! These men were wise because they were watching for God! They were looking for him! Are you looking for God? They had read the scriptures and were looking for that special star! They were educated in the sciences of astronomy and scripture! They were so familiar with the stars they would recognize a new star! Are you so familiar with the scriptures you would recognize Christ’s second coming? So they watched the scriptures and the signs in the heavens! The Angel’s watched that night from Heaven and earth! They were watching those who were watching for God! If you want God’s attention look for him! You may have temporary success in this life and people will watch you for awhile but then they will move on to the next celebrity! They will forget you! When we get God’s attention he will remember you forever! King Herod was not looking for Jesus! However when he discovered he had missed Jesus he took revenge on the small babies of Bethlehem! When the world misses Jesus second coming they will cry and wail and take revenge out on one another! This season is a great opportunity for us to watch, witness and worship Jesus! Why Suffer? Revelation 1:9
Greek Translation: I John, who also am among you a brother of the same womb (Born Again) and companion in tribulation. In tribulation of being broken, squeezed, crushed with the pressure of a burden upon my spirit in a confined space (Prison). And in the Kingdom of God under all circumstances with endurance towards people. I was in the isle of Patmos, for the Word of God and for the testimony being a witness, certifying and declaring Jesus Christ. Comment: Suffering by the world brings death! Suffering by God has brought men Salvation! John suffered for a testimony of Jesus Christ! Suffering in Christ brings purpose in your life! To live is Christ and to die is gain! We have an interesting story about India. We spent two of our three years there on a remote mountain village named Yercaud in South India. They had an old English church up there that had the graveyard surrounding the church! I explained in a previous post why the British did this. Since I had to walk through the cemetery to get to the front door of the church I noticed some of the grave markers. There were two grave markers of a missionary couple from England that spent their whole life preaching the Gospel in India! But I noticed next to their graves was a little grave marker of a four year old girl. This was their daughter who died of malaria while ministering to the people of India! I wrote there names down and then inquired of the elders of the village if anyone knew about them? An old man in the village told me the story his grandfather told him many years ago. This couple had a powerful ministry bringing hundreds of Hindus and Muslims to Christ! They had been appointed to a three year mission work to India. However after their daughter died there they spent the rest of their lives ministering in India! They decided their daughter’s death would not be in vain! Her sacrifice was not to be wasted! Jesus said, “This do in remembrance of me!” As we take the bread and the cup let us remember he did not let the cup pass from him! A sacrifice was provided to you for your Salvation! Witness of the Jews! Isaiah 61:9
- And their seed, offspring, family and race will be perceived and known among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people, nation and tribes: all that see them shall recognize and acknowledge them, that they are the seed that the Lord has blessed. Comment: Salvation has come to the earth through the Jew! We need to be reminded of this because if forgotten history has shown us that even the church has been guilty of the persecution of the Jews! Yet congregations are very seldom reminded of this? If we are not taught the whole truth and nothing but the truth then error can enter into the church! The world will never have any problem persecuting the Jews! Did you ever observe that a right theology by the church leads to the persecution of the Jews and the church! Bad theology leads to the church persecuting the Jews! Jesus a Jew was persecuted by the Jews not because he was a Jew but because he claimed to be God! Would the Messiah not be God? The 1st Century Jews knew the scriptures but they believed their Messiah would be a world political leader who would conquer the Romans and the world! Much like the Anti-Christ will do in the future here on earth! The true Messiah conquers through love! A sacrificial love demonstrated on the Cross! So the Jews ignorantly offered up the sacrifice that would save the world! A Jewish sacrifice offered up by the Jews! Many Jews will turn to Christ during the 7 year Tribulation period in history! The Jewish Anti-Christ will set up his world reign from the re-built Jewish Temple at Jerusalem! The False Prophet will set up his co-reign with the Anti-Christ at Rome! The False Prophet will be the one world religious ruler! My guess is it will be Islam! The Church will have been raptured by then! When the Anti-Christ proclaims he is God the Jews recognize their error! Jesus said many false Christ’s will come! A Jew who hates the Jewish Messiah has been deceived! A Jew who loves the Anti-Christ has been deceived! A Jew or a Gentile who loves the Jewish Messiah has found the truth! Your defense against the false Messiah’s of this world is the Word of God! Baptism
In the early church Baptism was done outside a building in a lake, stream, pond or on the ocean shoreline! During this time in church history this was a witness to the unbelievers as well as the believers since many unbelievers saw this testimony displayed! At least in America most baptism is done inside a church where only believers witness! Teaching on Book of Romans
Dear Andrew, We enjoy the teachings you do on the Bible! We do have an internal witness from God inside us when we do something wrong. However, we need an external witness to confirm the internal witness! When I did something wrong it was confirmed when my father used the razor strap on us growing up! When my school principal took me over his knee and whipped me for doing wrong I got the external witness! What is missing in American culture today is the external witness because of missing father’s in the home, missing authority figures who would go to jail for the things my generation authority figures did then! The cultural media has also replaced the family authority today! Jesus told the woman at the well that she had 5 husbands and the current guy she was living with was not her husband! Jesus told Herod he was a fox and the religious rulers that they were a generation of vipers! Jesus gave external confirmation! Does God hate?
These six things doth the Lord hate, yes, seven are an abomination unto Him; A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief.
