You know the kind of respect you gave to your substitute teachers in school! The ministry is not much different! An experienced retired Pastor substituted for Pastor’s who were on vacation or sick or found themselves in situations where they could not shepherd their flock for a short period of time. This Pastor covered a denominational district of about 25 churches so he sometimes found himself very busy! So he got the call Saturday night that he would have to pastor this church Sunday in a rural district of south Texas! He thought he did a good job because as the cue of people lined up after the service to greet the pastor the compliments were encouraging! However this one member told the pastor his sermon was boring and he fell asleep during the service! Pastor apologized and told him he would do better next time! This man got back at the end of the line instead of leaving and told the pastor his English was poor and his Bible knowledge was lacking! The Pastor again apologized and told him he would study his Bible more in the future! Then a church elder interrupted the pastor in the cue and told him not to pay any attention to this guy for all his criticism because he only repeats what the congregation members say! Gospel Lite! Romans 13:3-6
Much of the preaching today is what I call “Gospel Lite.” It is a reduced calorie Gospel just like Bud Lite beer! You are deprived of nutrients! A cheap substitute! All of our cultural wars going on in America are never discussed? Scripture warnings to gays, lesbians, transsexuals and abortionist are ignored! Sometimes I think our pulpits here in America are located on the moon! Nothing about Islam? Now school children here in America are chanting Praise to Allah! You only lose a war because you will not fight! While Christian’s are being tortured and beheaded in the Middle East much of the church here in America has the mute button on? It is a very strange time for us in history? Remember the Gospel applies to everyone not just church people! It either applies to all or to no one! Preach the Gospel like the whole world is in front of you and also those in Heaven and those in Hell! We have a great cloud of witnesses! The fire and brimstone in our churches is now a flickering candle! In the Book of Romans Paul speaks of the responsibility of the State to punish evil doers. This is the primary responsibility of the federal, state and local governments. Not to punish the good but to punish the evil! We are to pay tribute or taxes to help restore and maintain law and order! We are to remind our government leaders of their obligation to keep the peace! Even though Paul was a supporter and loyal Roman citizen he was still executed by the state! He never preached the overthrow of the government but the support of it! He just could not worship Caesar as God! We may have to pay the same price as Paul to pass the Gospel on to the next generation! When we preach the Gospel we should not fear anything but the truth! Churchill’s First War- Afghanistan- 1897
Young Winston Churchill at age 22 was a calvaryman second Lieutenant in the Fourth Queens own Hussars. He fought against the Taliban in Afghanistan. He came very close to death fighting there. Churchill blamed the Taliban for Afghans lamentable absence of civilized development, keeping them in the “grip of miserable superstition.” He was particular repelled by the Taliban’s loose moral conduct. They live free at the people’s expense they and, more than this, enjoyed a sort of “droit du seigneur” and no man’s wife or daughter was safe from them! He also wrote some of their manners and morals was even impossible to write about! He also wrote, “Civilization is face to face with militant Islam!” Comment; Civilization is Christ and any religious or non-religious substitute leads to the destruction of any society! Thankyou.
