The first draft of “America the Beautiful”, was hastily jotted down in a notebook during the summer of 1893, which Kathrine Bates spent teaching English at a Colorado Summer School (affiliated with Colorado College) in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Later she remembered: “One day some of the other teachers and I decided to go on a trip to the 14000 foot Pikes Peak. We hired a prairie wagon. Near the top we had to leave the wagon and go the rest of the way on mules. I was very tired, but when I saw the view, I felt great joy. All of the wonder of America seemed displayed there, with a sea like expanse!” Kathrine Bates was the daughter of Pastor William Bates and Cornelin Francis Lee of Falmouth Massachusetts. Dump It!
As your Pastor I must say drinking is the most destructive sin ever devised by Satan! Millions of casualties! If I could gather up all the whisky bottles in America I would dump them in the river! If I could gather up all the beer cans and bottles in America I would dump them in the river! I would take every keg of beer and hatchet them to pieces down by the river! Beautiful Princess!
A retired rancher in Colorado spent his last days fishing in his mountain stream that passed through his ranch. It was so peaceful and quiet that he fell asleep along the stream waiting for a fish to bite! Suddenly this loud voice woke him up but he could not see anyone? Is God talking to me? Pick me up said the loud voice? Pick me up! Pick me up! The rancher then noticed a small green frog along the shore line near him. The frog said, “If you pick me up and kiss me I will turn into a beautiful princess!” The rancher picked him up and put him in his pocket! Grandpa Settles For Less!
Grandpa owned a small fishing boat. So he took it to the lake one Sunday afternoon and rowed to the center of this small lake. He let his line down in the water when he heard a voice? Pick me up the voice spoke! Grandpa looked around but saw no one? Again the voice sounded pick me up! Grandpa looked over the bow of his small boat and saw a small frog sitting on a lilly pad? The frog again said pick me up! So grandpa picked up the frog and put him in his pocket. Then the small frog said, ” If you give me a kiss I will turn into a beautiful young princess” !
