Heretics such as Arius of Alexander Egypt disturbed the peace of the Roman Empire. Emperor Constantine called a meeting of all the Bishops across his empire in an accessible town of Nicaea which is in present day Iznik Turkey. It was organized like the Roman Senate with the Emperor participating as a non-voting observer. The council met in Senatus Palace which is under Lake Isnik today. About 318 Bishops came from Rome, Jerusalem, Palestine, Egypt, Syria, Greece, Asia Minor, Persia, Gaul, Hispania and the Danube. Among them was Saint Sylvester, Saint Alexander of Alexandria, Saint Nicholas of Myra (Jolly old Saint Nicolas, same guy), and Saint and Church Historian Eusebius. Each Bishop could bring up to two Priests and three deacons. So a total of up to 1800 could have attended! Even heretic Arius attended and got to vote! Thankyou. James and Hamsa Sasse. GodWhoisGod.com
