Why do Righteous Suffer? 1 Peter 3:14

“But and if you suffer for righteousness sake, happy are you; and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled.” Comment: First we need to take a careful look at the word “Righteousness”. In the Greek it is Strong’s #1343. Righteousness or justice is an adopted claim to a higher authority! It recognizes God’s claim on us! Because he has claimed us we can claim him! Insurance does you no good unless you file a claim! If you do not file a claim you will never receive the benefits! When we study and believe the Word of God everyday we make claims on his promises to us! Through everyday study of your Bible you claim your rights and file your claim! You might call this the covenant! We claim a higher authority to self! Our standard is to adopt God’s claim on us! We belong to him! Righteousness is the state commanded by God standing the test of his judgment! It is conformity to all he commands of us! True righteousness belongs to God! The righteousness of God is the right God has upon all his creation! Righteousness is a gift from God! Righteousness is recognized by man in acceptance of God through faith! Righteousness by law can only be applied to God for he has never broken the law! Men have broken the law and trying to keep the law by their own efforts oppose the righteousness of God! God is the law giver to show us we can never be righteous on our own! Christ fulfilled the law because he was more than a man he was God! He was God in the flesh! Christ took the penalty of death for our sin of breaking the law to the Cross! Our righteousness now rests in him! Our expression of his love is executed on others! The righteous are persecuted because of the first sin which was pride! In the Garden of Eden our first parents were tempted by Satan with pride! Did God really say? You know more than God! I am giving you a higher education! Your knowledge will exceed God’s thanks to me! You were born a male you can be a female! You are a female you can become a male! You can do what God cannot do! You can sin! Sin is about trusting ourselves over God! Then the law becomes our judge with no redemption! We suffer because we do not trust ourselves in our own efforts as the world does! We trust in God’s character and not in men! The world hates the truth because it would mean submitting themselves to the righteousness of God! They could no longer make themselves God! Their only temporal sigh of relief is to persecute the followers of Christ! Their faith is in themselves and in conflict with the faith of God! Finally the word “happy” used in the Greek is Strong’s#3107. It means blessed possessing the character of God! When Jesus ascended to his Father in Heaven he promised us to send his Holy Spirit to keep us until his second coming! His adopting us who were once orphans in sin from the Commonwealth of Israel blesses us with no greater happiness! All of life is a struggle for acceptance living in a world of rejection!Many   sin for acceptance! When we receive the righteousness of God and his acceptance there is no greater joy! True Equality! 1 Peter 3:17

Greek Translation: “Likewise husbands dwell with them as a family according to experienced knowledge, giving honor unto the wife, as unto the physically weaker vessel but not morally weaker, and as joint heirs together of the grace and favor without an expected of return of life in spirit and soul with the highest blessedness your prayers seized and held according to the destination of your relationship be not hindered.” Comment: Did you get all that? No assumptions here! First God instructs us to live in marriage with your wife as a family! Marriage between a man and a woman. Giving honor to the wife through your experienced knowledge of her the physically weaker vessel. Not morally weaker but providing protection to her as the weaker vessel. Both husband and wife are joint heirs to Christ! We serve God together! Remember Jesus said where two or three are gathered together in my name there will I be! Praying together is God’s will as a family! Purpose is found in a joint relationship to God! We serve each other without an expectation of a return favor! It is not a tit for tat! If you do this for me then I will do this for you? If you do not then I will not? Jesus said the greatest in the Kingdom of God is servant of all! A true servant recognizes his blessings come from God! Your service may be rejected or despised here on earth but will be rewarded in Heaven! The love of God expressed to each other is the choice to serve each other! Even when it hurts! Jesus gave his highest service to you by going to the Cross! Can he expect any less from his church? Equality is measured by our love and care for each other! We can never be equal with God but in submission to him we can do what he did! Left to ourselves we will only serve self! Our biggest enemy is self! Health is to take our minds off self and that is what service to others does! God took his mind off himself and created you and then went to the Cross for you! Is God into selfie’s? My Bible says we are created in the Image of God! Why not try to look like God! When you make your life about God then he makes it about you! True equality! Republican/Democrat Party

I knew however bad the Republican party was, the Democratic party was much worse! The elements of which the Republican party was composed gave better ground for the ultimate hope of the success of the colored man’s cause than those of the Democratic party! Persecution! 1 Peter 2:20

“For what glory is it, when you are buffeted for your own faults, you shall take it patiently? but if, when you do well and suffer for it, you take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.” Comment: This is the key to the Kingdom of God! Suffering and persecution! You might say God can take it but me? Jesus was despised and rejected of men yet he opened not his mouth! If you are God come down off the Cross! He saved others he cannot save himself? King of the Jews? Prove it! Jesus was persecuted for us and we are today persecuted for Jesus! All Jesus disciples except for John were martyred! John was boiled in a pot of oil and exiled to a slave labor camp on a remote island! No one likes to suffer! All their suffering brought the Gospel to the ends of the earth! We can suffer for the wrong reasons! Righteousness is rewarded and evil is punished! When we are persecuted for righteousness sake then we are living our faith out! We do not look for a fight! We are not to be obnoxious! If you are really living for Christ persecution will find you! However God’s power and love is greater than any persecution devised by men! Flesh and blood shall not inherit the Kingdom of God! Living for Jesus requires faith! You trust God while wicked men trust themselves! Satan thought when Jesus was on the Cross that he had won! However he crafted a net for himself! The enemies of God are always given just enough rope to hang themselves! Like Haman! Like Judas! Jesus said we are to love our enemies! How? Tell them that God so loved them that he sacrificed himself for their sin! That God so loved them that he defeated death, hell and the grave for them! Jesus was raised from the dead for them! Illegal Aliens! 1 Peter 2:10

“Which in time past we were not a people, but are now the people of God; which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.” Illegal aliens are in the news all the time! Whether they be on our southern border or from space! We all began life as illegal aliens! We were created by God yet opposed him as an enemy! By rejecting him we lost all rights and benefits! We had no borders on our moral behavior and no limits on the evil we could do! We by our own efforts tried to break into the Kingdom of God! Our sin kept us out! We made God in our own image with millions of idols which separated us further from him! To correct one sin we did another sin! We needed mercy but we lived in judgment! We wanted to be citizens of Heaven but became aliens from the Commonwealth of Israel! We found it impossible to cross the border into Heaven! No matter how hard we tried nothing seemed to work? Mercy is a gift from God that we cannot earn! If we could earn this gift it would not be from God! God took your illegal sin upon himself and paid the legal price to redeem you from your sin by paying the penalty of death! After Christ on the Cross you are a legalized citizen in Heaven! A place is reserved for you there! A Cross was placed across the border as a bridge to Heaven! Before Christ all you could do was build a shortcut to Hell! You are now the people of God washed in his blood! Resurrected from the dead! Remember God’s same miracle power that gave you the gift of redemption is the same power that will one day raise you from the dead! If you will let God do it his way and abandon your old ways deliverance will come to you! No more celebrating death like in Halloween but celebrating life! Your immigration has to be legal! Some will migrate to Heaven and some to Hell! How long will your visa last in Heaven? Forever! You do not have to renew it! Is your name written in the Book of Life or has it been blotted out? It depends on whether you have accepted or rejected God’s mercy! You decide your final destination! Trust men or God? A fool says in his heart there is no God! Eternity is for keeps! Confounded? 1 Peter 2:6

Greek Translation: “Wherefore it is contained in the Holy, God breathed scripture, Behold I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, the chosen preferred elect, precious and he that believeth in me and trusts me giving credit with mental persuasion shall not be confounded.” Comment: Confusion everywhere in 21st Century America? Sex Identity confusion! Gender confusion! Identity confusion! Financial confusion! Political confusion! These are the symptoms of the disease but what are the causes? A culture that is abandoning the scriptures! The Greek word for our English word scripture is “Graphe”. We get our English word graph from this Greek word. Graphs are used to paint a picture of something! They are used in science, research, politics, religion, government, medicine and the list goes on! The scriptures are a graph that measures us! God will judge the world according to his word! God takes the template of his word and places it over your life! Are you found wanting? The same scriptures will either save you or condemn you! The next important word in this text is the word elect! With elections coming up it might be a good time to look at this word. The word means chosen however it does not imply rejection of what is not chosen but favor or preference to what is chosen! God chose you on the Cross but unless you choose him the covenant will not apply to you! The next word believeth needs some explaining. It means to give credit to with mental persuasion! To entrust! Our word faith is closely related to this word! Do you give credit to God for your life or take credit unto yourself? Do you brag about God or about yourself? Do you trust the scriptures or your own understanding? Do you dilute the scripture with worldly idea’s? Do you believe the scriptures or something contrary to them? To dilute the scriptures is to end up with Babylon or confusion! What is the foundation you build your life on? The rock or sinking sand? Is your graph off the charts? No boundaries? Lawlessness? Anarchy? Great cultures in world history have spiraled into collapse! Sometimes they were replaced with even more wicked cultures! After Israel turned their back on God they went into captivity for 70 years! After repenting they were restored to their own land! They had enough of Babylon confusion! Where are you on the graph right now? God’s graph is drawn in red with the blood of his only Son Jesus Christ! Have you applied his blood over your soul for redemption? Or have you rejected him? God has chosen you but you have to choose him! God paid a heavy price for your redemption with death on a Cross! Is it too hard to say yes to him? The clock is ticking on the timeline of the graph and one day the time will stop! Game over! What is the score? Did you win or lose? Did you enter the contest or sit on the sidelines?
