Benjamin Rush (1745-1813) Rush was a Founding Father of the United States. Rush was a civil leader in Philadelphia. He was a physician, politician, social reformer, educator, humanitarian and founder of Dickinson College in Carlisle Pennsylvania. He signed the Declaration of Independence and attended the Continental Congress. He served as Surgeon General of the Continental Army. He became professor of chemistry, medical theory and had a clinical practice at the University of Pennsylvania. His studies on mental disorders made one of the founders of American Psychiatry.
