“Finally brethren, pray for us, that the Word of the Lord may have free course (promoted), and be glorified, even as it is with you: and that we may be delivered from unreasonable men and wicked men, for all have not faith. But the Lord is faithful who shall establish you, and keep you from evil.” Commentary: Deliver us from what? Evil! Deliver from who? Evil men! Notice how this falls in line with our Lord’s prayer given to us in Matthew 6:9-13. The Apostle Paul did not say pray for us to be rich and successful? Just show me the money? Pray to be popular on social media with millions of followers! He prayed promote the Gospel! The good news! Go out into all the world to preach the Gospel! That Christ be glorified and not men! Protected from evil men who are not in faith with Christ! Trust Christ who is the only one who can establish you and keep you from evil! Has your prayer list gotten shorter now? Lord help me to win the lottery so all these wicked women will chase after me at least until the money is gone! What about the prayer Jesus gave us in the Book of Matthew? Remember God centered prayers are always about others! When you do this then God will make it about you because you become the others! It begins Our Father who art in heaven! It is about others God himself! Hallowed be thy name! What does that mean? In the Greek “Haliazo” means to withdraw from the fellowship of the world and from selfishness by first gaining fellowship with God! Thy Kingdom come! Not my will but thy will be done! Give us our daily bread! Not give me my daily bread! Who is us? Here you must be in prayer with others! Where two or three gathered in my name there I will be! Not my will but thy will be done! Forgive us! Not forgive me! Lord you are the Kingdom and the power and the glory! This prayer begins with God and ends with God! Jesus said love your enemies! We pray for those our enemies the others in our life that they too be delivered from evil! When we are right with God the Holy Spirit will take up residence within us!
