“And to the angel (pastor) of the Church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth, and shutteth and no man openeth.” Commentary: If you are holy and true before God and men you will never deny the name of Jesus! You will always confess him and proclaim him before men! Peter had a denial problem but then confessed him even unto his martyrdom. Jesus hates political correctness! No Happy Holidays here but to proclaim the Christ in Christmas! The world will try to silence you about your Christ using intimidation tactics! I do not wear my religion on my sleeve? Jesus if you have him lives on your inside! I would be a Christian were it not for a Christian? Fact is only Jesus can save you no Christian can! Our job is to point people to the Savior! They must come the same way we have come! Whatever is on our inside comes out on the outside! Faith, love, hope, redemption, forgiveness, peace, faithfulness, prophecy, power, judgment and the resurrection from the dead! In America they will tell you he is a white man’s religion? Wrong! Jesus is from the Middle East! His message spread across Europe and finally to America! Jesus is a brown or olive skinned man! Jesus said I knock at the door! If you let me in I will commune with you! I will encourage you and save you from your sin! If you shut the door on me no man will be able to save you! You will be lost forever! Jesus is knocking at your door! Will you answer his call? Are you too busy? Did you hang up on God? If you answer his call your life will be changed in a way you could never do on your own! Jesus Makes a Confession About You? Revelation 3:5
“He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white rainment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.” Commentary: Some Saints at the Church at Sardis get their names mentioned as honorable mention to the Father by Jesus! Some get their names blotted out of the book of life! Do you confess Jesus daily from your lips at work or at home? In the market place where you go? Are you ashamed of him? If his name is never on your lips your name will never be on his lips! Jesus has to be more than a cuss word to you! Do you hear his words once a week but never speak his words? In any church some will go to heaven and some will not! When the Saints go marching in I want to be in that number! How about you? Surely my church membership is enough? No organization or denomination can save you! No Pastor can save you! His job and your job is to point people to the Savior! No amount of money given to a ministry can save you! Only Jesus can save you! There is only one road into heaven but many roads out of heaven! I have decided to follow Jesus as the old hymn says written in India! Church at Sardis! Revelation 3:3
“Remember therefore how thou has received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shall not watch, I will come as a thief, and thou shall not know what hour I will come upon thee.” Commentary: Christ will judge his church! Judgement begins at the House of God! He will come unknown to some! His stealth footsteps unknown to the perishing! Some in the church would not repent! Sin not forsaken with hypocracy and the decay of sterile religion! It was a church in the form of Godliness yet no power! A dead church! Buried but never resurrected! Jesus called them to be watchful against their enemies and to be active and sincere in their duties dependent upon the Holy Spirit to revive and strengthen their faith and affection living for God alone! Jesus did make mention of a few faithful at the Sardis Church! Surely those members are written down in the Book of Life! We are to live for God with all the evil that surrounds us! As Jesus supplies our strength to endure to the end we through his grace snatch the deceived out of the jaws of Satan! Stay faithful in the midst of an unfaithful generation! Choose good over evil! Proclaim his good news in the midst of all the bad news! Proclaim his love for the world that has rejected him without cause! Stay faithful and true to Christ and his church! One Name Above All Names! Revelation 2:26
“And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations.” Commentary: Christ who came to die will come again to reign! We who are united with Christ today will reign with him tomorrow! We can never rest unless we work! A good work here on earth yet a nobler work to be done in heaven! He gives us authority because of his conquering rule! Might is not right but right is might! We are so identified with him that he shares his possessions with us! The bride is endowed with the wealth of the bridegroom! Our crowns are because of his Cross! He is the morning star because of his royal dominion! The Saints share in the judgment of the nations with Christ! The Arabic Bible version reads; “and keepeth my words and my works.” Our doctrine and works need to agree! He has power over Gentiles and their pagan worship rescuing them from the deceptions of Satan! The Gospel is the power of God weakening the Kingdom of Satan! What is our Christian vocation? False Teachers! Revelation 2:20
Commentary: False teachers in the church at Thyatia in the first century are the same problem we have in the 21st century church today! Jesus warned us there would come many false teachers driving people away from Christ! In life we can do ten things right and one thing wrong and it wipes out all the good things we have done! This is why it is so important to get Christ right because then you can recover from all your sin!`He took your sin upon himself and paid the price of death on a Cross for you! If we trust ourselves we will fail! In the Old Testament or what I like to call the 1st Testament Jezebel was the wife of King Ahab. She was an influence for evil! She even had a man killed to get his property! She was a idol worshiper of Baal. Remember in idol worship you will always make yourself God! Whether Hinduism, Islam, atheism or any other religion. Let me explain! I spent a number of years in India. I would ask the Hindus who God was? They have millions of idols! They would tell me God is who you create him to be in your mind! I would say my Bible says God created man! Just the opposite! I asked many Muslims there how do you get to heaven? They told me they must die for God through becoming a martyr! I told them my Bible says God died for us! Just the opposite! They make themselves God! God created man in his own image! Yet they make God in their own image! Just the opposite! Heaven and hell are opposites! Jezebel used her power and influence to do evil! What are you doing with your resources? Are you promoting the Gospel of Jesus Christ? The dogs ate Jezebel but her spirit lived on in the 1st Century church and even today opposing Christ! There are many good women preachers in the church today but your only defense from error is to know your Bible! Any ideology or religious doctrine that says there is another way to God than through Christ is a heresy! Jesus commended this church in some ways but also disciplined them in their doctrinal error!
