Greek Translation: “Let no one no matter who they are in relationship to you for profit or loss, but in everything by prayer a vow to God for benefits let your requests be in relation to God’s purpose for your life.” Commentary: The Apostle Paul wrote this letter to the church at Philippi from a Roman prison! Paul was encouraging others when himself was in dire straights! Paul understood his suffering was for the furtherance of the Gospel. I learned this after 3 years on the mission field in India! I witnessed all the work done there from Saint Thomas onward! There is no better understanding and joy as when God reveals your purpose for your existence! There is no benefit above this! Paul was suffering on purpose! Everything has purpose when suffering for the purposes of God! Revelation comes out of suffering! The light at the end of the tunnel is Christ entering into you life! The highest purpose for any mortal is the presence of God dwelling in you! Confirmation of your calling involves tribulation! However be of good cheer for he has overcome the world! The Good News is found in the midst of bad news! Writing a letter from prison to encourage people seems foolish to the world! All things work together for good to those that love God and are called according to his purpose! You can never find true purpose outside of Christ!
