Let us each examine his thoughts; he will find them wholly concerned with the past or the future. We almost never think of the present, and if we do think of it, it is only to see what light it throws on our plans for the future. The present is never our end. The past and the present our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so. Blaise Pascal Commentary: It is so funny that Jesus disciples got in an argument about who was going to sit next to him at the table in heaven? Thinking about their future? Jesus told them it is not my place to give you your seating arrangements in heaven! You would think making heaven would be enough and not to worry about your position in heaven? But that is the problem Pascal was trying to express in his quote. Jesus said I have gone to prepare a place for you in heaven! You would think that should be enough? No matter how rich or how poor we cannot enjoy today unless we are trusting God with our future! Outside of Christ we have no future! The Bible declares God has put eternity in our hearts! Only he can meet our longing for eternity! He holds our past, present and future and to commit those to him releases us with a joy to enjoy the present! James & Hamsa Sasse. WhoisGod.de
